Mental health is something that has played a huge part in my life since I was a child. I learned at a very young age that being mentally healthy was something that did not come naturally. It was something I had to and have continued to work on every day in order to find balance on the forever fluctuating spectrum of depression and anxiety. Teenage depression was real, university anxiety was a nightmare, and the transition into adulthood showed me what it really felt like to experience true fear and sadness. The symptoms of anxiety and depression have and always will be a part of me but I have become very grateful for the tools that I have been given, the interactions I have had, and the support that was found right here within our community. Throughout these experiences, I have learned that it is the little things in life that bring us the most joy. It is the small moments shared with others that remind us we are not alone. And it is the recognition of our own breath that makes us feel safe. Kelowna, I am forever grateful.
